The Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy ennustaa tuleville vuosikymmenille hurjaa mineraalien kulutusta. Laitos ennustaa mineraaliresurssien kulutukseksi seuraavan 50 vuoden aikana viisi kertaa sen määrän resursseja mitä oli koskaan kaivettu vuoteen 2000 mennessä.
